SA6 Review, Price vs Performance

February 8, 2008

“I just received the earphones around 2 hours back. All I can say is “WOW!!!!”. Definitely exceeds expectation.”

For price vs. performance, this one blows the competition away completely.

I did a comparitive analysis with and without a headphone amp…just used a single one - the Xin Supermini - IV

I compared it to the following earphones on the market, which are my favorites that I use on a daily basis. Each has it’s flaws…or so called pros and cons.

- Etymotic ER-6

- Westone UM1

- Shure E550

- AKG K701 - headphone…doesn’t count…but just for comparision sake.

The SA6 blew the ER-6 and UM1 out of the water with respect to overall presentation.

The real test was could it stand up to the E550, the triple driver beast of in-ear monitors. I have to say the bass response is more monstrous compared to the SA6. It is tight and very refined and never ever boomy. Too much like a stuck up English butler.

Now I would compare the E550 to an mass market super car…maybe a Lexus…great but no unique character. The SA6 has that certain raw nature about it which I think makes it my favorite for now. For a single driver earphone it is amazing. I have to admit I was skeptical at first before ordered but I’m glad I pre-ordered this great product for you.

People just have to throw away their pre-conceived ideas about earphones and just take audition of the SA6. It truly is the best product for the price..period. I’m no expert, and these are just my initial impressions and they’re super good.

What I liked about the SA6 is there is a certain unique character to the sound, very organic, and that’s a good thing. It takes the best qualities of every headphone I’ve owned and the best part is the sound customization. I found + Bass and Treble worked for me after trying all the combinations.

The SA6 is definitely going to be my most listened to earphone for sure. I found that the SA6 is also more forgiveable to low bit rate music when compared to high bit rate music. A plus in my book. It sound amazing right out the box and connected directly to an MP3 player. I tried it on the:-

- iPod Nano 1 Gen

- iPod Nano 2 Gen

- iPod Classic 5.5 Gen

- iPod Touch

Anything that was thrown at the SA6 just simply sounded amazing…and no need for any headphone amp. Tried VanHalen all the way to Megadeth, Beethoven and Cypress Hill….Korn, Meshuggah…the list goes on….everything sounded really good.

Just though I’d share some feedback. You have got an amazing product on your hands and it’s just a matter of changing consumer pre-conceptions and to let them welcome something new..which is a challenge but not impossible.
